Location: Melbourne, Victoria
Planex products: xLocker2 System
Lock technology: Lehmann Model 60

Balwyn High School, a respected secondary college located in Melbourne, Victoria, serves over 2,500 students from Year 7 to Year 12. Recently, the school reached out to Planex to address the needs of their aging locker system which had been in use for over 25 years. They sought a modern solution capable of supporting their requirements for the next 25 years.

The primary goal was to replace the existing lockers situated in the purpose-built breezeways adjacent to learning environments. The new lockers needed to be robust and tamper-proof, providing adequate storage while ensuring that the locking mechanism was user-friendly, allowing students to access their lockers quickly and efficiently. Key considerations for the locker design included ease of maintenance and servicing at the end of each semester or year, enabling the facilities team to manage access and reset codes as necessary.

The Lehmann Model 60, a dial lock that doubles as a handle, utilises a fixed code and includes a scramble function that resets the lock to 0000 when the door is closed. It also comes with an override key for facilities managers. Additionally, the lock can be upgraded in the future to include a push-button battery lock with enhanced functionalities and RFID technology.

Currently the school is taking the opportunity to test this system over several months with the Year 7 cohort, allowing them to assess the effectiveness before full-scale implementation.
