As one enters the new Department of Transport workplace at Maroondah Hwy Ringwood you are welcomed by the new VicRoads Customer Service Centre, and greeted with a friendly ‘welcome’ and ‘how can I help you?’ – it is a very different kind of experience from the days of taking a ticket and waiting for your number to be called. The building was recently completed by Peckvonhartel and Rebecca Daff (the National Practice Director) was the lead architect/designer on the project. The project scope required a welcoming Customer Service Centre for interfacing with the general public, a business lounge located on the mezzanine level to support external clients and 6 levels of flexible spaces/shared amenities suited to hybrid working.

Rebecca Daff and Rhonda Emery, Senior Project Managers at the Department of Transport lead a fantastic team of consultants and workplace specialists to create a workplace comprising 13,000m2. The facility co-located a number of departments with the intention to enhance collaboration and knowledge sharing across teams and departments.

Daff approached Lee Turner from Planex with a customised storage system designed specifically to suit the needs of the workplace, incorporating raised planters above the storage cabinets. This design detail helped to create a biophilic environment that encourages wellness within the office.

Planex and Lee Turner’s expertise with corporate storage and ability to customise to the needs of the designer/client enabled us to realise the unique design by Peckvonhartel. The striking black and white units were positioned at the end of workstations across six floors providing both storage and greenery.

In keeping with the custom storage units, Planex supplied the xLocker2 System for individual personal lockers for staff. The lockers were installed and fitted with Smartalock locking technology.
